As many of you have heard, forecasts are predicting possible freezing temperatures and precipitation this weekend. At this time, our parish plans to maintain the regular weekend Mass schedule.
I want to speak clearly about both your responsibility and your freedom as Catholics. While the Church obliges us to attend Mass on Sundays and holy days, she does not require what is dangerous or truly impossible. If weather conditions make travel unsafe, the Sunday obligation does not bind. No one should feel pressured to put themselves or others at risk.
This applies to situations of real danger, not mere inconvenience. Outside of grave circumstances, we should continue to make the Eucharist the central priority of our lives, remembering that travel, sports, or poor planning are not sufficient reasons to miss Mass.
Please know of my prayers for you as you discern what is safest and most prudent. I am grateful for each of you and entrust our parish to the care of the Lord.
In His Light,
Fr. David Michael Moses
